Back pain is one of the most common medical conditions where nearly 70 – 80 percent of people of all ages suffer from it at some time. It is second most common ailment only after headaches. There may be many causes of back pain. Certain cases of back pain which are not acute can be treated at home with simple medications and techniques. These techniques may involve giving heat therapy to the patients or water therapy or more often cold therapy as known. These therapies may prove helpful in certain cases where the back pain is not
acute. But in certain cases where the pain is more severe, the patient is always advised to seek the help of a professional medical person.
Certain options may include physical therapy, manipulation therapy, nstruction in posture, prescription drugs or injection therapy. Several factors may result to back pain, but poor posture could be a common factor. A sprain in a muscle is most likely to occur when a person lifts or moves a heavy object. Overstretching can also be one of the main cause.
Thus irritated, compressed or even a pinched nerve may cause back pain. It can also be as a result of chronic disorders. In certain cases the sources of back pain may be hard to determine.
Acute back pain is generally short-term pain and may last for a few days to weeks. They may result due to injury or trauma to the lower back.
Symptoms may vary with limiting flexibility. If left untreated, some may become serious and chronic. Chronic pain may last for a few months depending on its cause. The pain may also increase over the period of time. A chronic back pain may take time to subsidize.
